STEVEN  HAKES

2007 Champion

Steve pretty much came in as the favorite with a top 15 Golfweek senior amateur ranking for 2006.  He caught Doug Johnson of Fresno in the final who was the Medalist and made the finals in the San Francisco Senior the week before in his inaugural event as a senior.  Steve and long hitting Doug had a quality match with both players at or under par on the tough Bear Creek course.  Steve, who is from San Diego, was simply on his game and 3 under for the match.  All Doug could do was tip his cap and congratulate the Steve's superior play.  Rich Tolly of Laguna Hills made the Semi's along with Bill Cvengros of San Juan Capistrano.

The SPSA was finally inaugurated at the tough

and challenging Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, CA.

The 08 SPSA will not be held with the event moving to Mayacama

GC in 09 in Northern California near Santa Rosa in the heart of the wine country.  The SPSA is now scheduled with the Society of Seniors and gets Golfweek Senior Amateur Player Points as a national level event as are all tournaments conducted by the Scratch Players Group along with NCGA Senior points.  More info coming.

The course is ranked amoung the top 70 in the country and, without doubt, the best course to ever host a Scratch Players event and one of the best courses to host any amateur event in the country.  In the heart of the wine country, bring the wife or someone special to this one.
